What you can, can’t bring to Joint Base Andrews’ air show

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds are among the performers at Saturday’s free air show at Joint Base Andrews.

The schedule for the day, according to the Joint Base Andrews website, is as follows:

  • Gates open: 9 a.m.
  • Opening Ceremonies:  11:30 a.m.
  • Demonstrations: 11:30 a.m. – 3 p.m.
  • Parking: FedEx Field and Branch Avenue Metro Station.
  • Shuttle: Shuttles to the show run from 8 a.m. – 1 p.m.
    The shuttles returning attendees back to their vehicles will run until after the final performance.

The Joint Base Andrews Air Show is the culmination of a series of activities in the National Capital Region, including  the Air Force’s Birthday Week celebration and the commemoration of  100 years of the US Navy Reserve,” the website states.

Other things to keep in mind: You can bring your own water in a clear container that’s not made of glass. You’ll be able to fill up water bottles free inside.

No outside food is allowed, but here is an exception if you have kids.

Parents can bring a small stroller and a diaper bag with formula and snacks.

Other banned items include large camera bags, bicycles and drones.

Here are detailed lists of what to leave at home, and what you can bring:

Prohibited Items:

  • Knives (all sizes)
  • Guns (all types)
  • Ammunition (all types)
  • Chemical Irritants (all types)
  • Coolers (except those for medication or baby formula) Personal Defense Weapons (all types)
  • Alcohol Illegal Drugs/Paraphernalia Glass Bottles/Containers Animals Bicycles
  • Rollerblades/Skateboards Fireworks Drones Pets Large camera bags (larger than one cubic foot) Camelbacks Beverages, except for baby formula and clear plastic bottles of water Food
  • Radio scanners
  • Any items posing a threat will not be allowed.

Authorized Items:

  • Small coolers used for medical reasons
  • Fanny packs
  • Purses
  • Camera bags smaller than 1 cubic foot
  • Diaper bags
  • Portable lawn chairs
  • Umbrellas
  • Small strollers
  • Clear plastic bottles of water
