Police arrest victim’s ex-boyfriend in Prince George’s County murder

WASHINGTON — The Prince George’s County Police department arrested 26-year-old Maurice Wigfall Jr. on Wednesday in connection to the May murder of his ex-girlfriend, Latiqua Cherry.

Cherry, 21, was found May 17 when her Oxon Hill home was on fire. The Prince George’s County Fire Department found her body suffering from severe burns. A medical examiner later found that Cherry died before the fire was set to the apartment due to trauma.

Wigfall has been charged with first- and second-degree murder and arson. He was already in custody at the Department of Corrections on an unrelated charge.

Anyone with information regarding this homicide is urged to call the Prince George’s County Police Homicide Unit at 301-772-4925.
