WASHINGTON — Road repairs are expected to continue Thursday morning after a water main break closed the westbound lanes of Md. 410, the East-West Highway, at U.S. 1 in Riverdale Park Wednesday morning.
The Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission said the water main had been repaired late Wednesday night, and water was expected to be back on for customers.
The force of the water rushing out of the 90-year-old pipe on Wednesday damaged about 25 feet of road, according to the utility. The 90-year-old water main broke at about 2 a.m., Jerry Irvine of WSSC says; they couldn’t shut the water off until between 6:30 and 7 a.m.
On Thursday morning, the westbound lanes of Md. 410 had to turn right to get onto northbound U.S. 1. The eastbound lanes had to turn right to go southbound on U.S. 1.
Earlier, Md. 410 was closed.
