WASHINGTON – A fire that damaged a vacant house in District Heights appears to have been intentionally set, according to the Prince George’s County Fire Department.

According to the county fire department, calls to 911 reported the blaze at 6515 Walters Place just before 8 p.m. Sunday. When firefighters arrived, the fire was on the second floor but had extended to the attic.

No injuries were reported. Fire investigators estimate that the blaze caused $10,000 in damage to the two-story home. The fire was set in a second-floor bedroom

Neighbors reported that people had been in and out of the home since it became vacant, investigators say. Real estate sites list the property as “bank owned.” The utilities had been shut off and the smoke alarms removed, the fire department said.

Anyone with information should call 301-772-7766 or send an email to 77ARSON@co.pg.md.us. Callers can remain anonymous.
