Raising Cane’s to replace longstanding Wendy’s in Merrifield’s Gatehouse Plaza

Raising Cane’s, the fast-growing chicken fingers chain, has inked a lease to replace a nearly 30-year-old Wendy’s just off Arlington Boulevard in Merrifield.

The Baton Rouge, Louisiana-based chain spelled out its plan for the Gatehouse Plaza restaurant park in a recent zoning filing with Fairfax County, in which land use attorney Lynne Strobel of Walsh Colucci Lubeley & Walsh PC wrote that Raising Cane’s has “entered into a lease agreement on the Property,” which is “currently developed and operated as a Wendy’s restaurant with a drive-through.” 

Gatehouse Plaza is owned by an affiliate of Boca Raton, Florida-based The Silver Cos. Tenants of the center, built in 1997 on parcels owned at the time by Mobil, which was headquartered nearby, include Sweetwater Tavern, Guapo’s, Starbucks and Panda Express. The Uno Pizzeria & Grill there closed earlier this year.

Wendy’s, at 3040 Gate House Road, was an original occupant.
