Roger Mody, a longtime Greater Washington businessman and philanthropist who later became a partner at Monumental Sports & Entertainment, has died. He was 61.
A cause of death was not immediately available.
Ted Leonsis, managing partner at Monumental, announced Mody’s death in social media posts on Wednesday morning.
Mody, who was born in D.C. to parents who had immigrated from India, co-founded technology contractor Signal Corp. in 1987 with his first wife, Lori. The Fairfax-based company designed and maintained computer networks for federal agencies.
Signal was sold to Arlington-based The Veridian Corp., a federal software company, in 2002 for $227 million in cash and notes. Mody, who was the CEO, reportedly netted $125 million from the sale.
He went on to found The Mody Foundation, which supports nonprofits helping underprivileged children. He became a partner at Monumental Sports, the entity that owns the Washington Wizards, Capitals and Mystics, in 2011.
