One pork chop to rule them all? A D.C.-area restaurant will win $100K in this regional competition.

One Greater Washington restaurant stands to win $100,000 for mastering one classic dish: the pork chop.

The Virginia Pork Council opened registration Monday for the #100kPorkChop competition, with the goal of identifying the best pork chop cooked up by restaurants in D.C., Northern Virginia and suburban Maryland — and highlighting a dish that might not be viewed with the highest regard or appear on every menu, but can still deliver protein-fueled deliciousness.

“Pork is one of the most versatile and affordable meats on the market, and we hope to showcase that through this fun, albeit highly competitive challenge,” Roy Lee Lindsey, executive director of the Virginia Pork Council, said in a statement. 

No restaurants as of Wednesday afternoon had signed up, but a spokesperson for the competition indicated there is growing interest.

Registration closes June 17, at which point the public will have from June 19 to July 3 to visit participating restaurants and vote for their winner.…
