For the first time ever, the Business Journal bestowed a People’s Choice award for best deal at our Best Real Estate Deals event.
We’re happy to report attendees at the event Thursday night selected the Girl Scouts’ Marlon Forest land sale in Prince George’s County as the winner. More than 500 people voted online to narrow it down from 20 projects to five finalists.
Members of the Girl Scouts Nation’s Capital and the teams involved in the deal gathered on stage with cheers, excitement and plenty of Girl Scout signs when I announced the award.
The deal, which won the Community Impact award, featured the sale of more than 500 acres to the M-NCPPC, a bi-county agency that oversees parkland and land use regulation in Prince George’s and Montgomery counties. The agency, which paid $12.6 million, will preserve the land, which had been donated to the council. To read more about the deal — and how young Girl Scouts influenced it — click here.
