From the NFL to audiobooks, these are the biggest M&A deals in Greater Washington so far this year

It’s been a slow year for merger and acquisition activity across the globe. But in Greater Washington, you would be forgiven for not realizing that.

Between the sale of the Washington Commanders and private equity firm Blackstone Inc. (NYSE: BX) taking event software firm Cvent private — both multibillion-dollar deals — there have been a number of high-profile M&A transactions that have occupied our attention. But neither of those deals is the largest on our list.

You might recall this week that Rockville’s Choice Hotels International Inc. (NYSE: CHH) made a nearly $10 billion bid to acquire rival Wyndham Hotels & Resorts (NYSE: WH) for nearly $10 billion. It’s a hostile takeover attempt that’s been declined by Wyndham’s board — though Choice may take its effort to Wyndham’s shareholders. But since no deal has been agreed upon, it doesn’t crack our list.
