ORBIE Leadership Award recipient Aaron Weis on building well-rounded teams and what’s next in tech

This year’s Leadership Award recipient for the 2023 Capital ORBIE Awards has had a career full of achievements. He’s a sought-after global IT professional who works quickly to right things in organizations that need help. He’s helped lead companies through initial public offerings and built high-performing teams.

And Aaron Weis, as chief information officer for the U.S. Department of the Navy, also did something few in his seat can claim: He got an act of Congress passed to fund his efforts.

“It reprogrammed $100 million of budget within the Navy, and we deployed 700,000 seats of Office 365 in about 14 months, which in any standard is moving at high speed,” he said.

Weis, who is now managing director with Google Public Sector, has spent a 25-year career leading startups and turnarounds at established companies, always with the goal to advance technology as a competitive advantage and to simplify processes.
