The great resignation, quiet quitting, ghosting — all terms describing the decline in employee engagement in the third decade of the 21st century. Research by the Gallup Institute showed a 34% decline in employee engagement between 2020 and 2021, the first decline in more than a decade. This sharp decline has led experts to examine what’s causing this phenomenon and what managers can do about it. The solution, like so many others, can be found in the past but must be adapted to the present as we evolve toward an unrecognizable future.
