Richmond’s Secret Sandwich Society eyes expansion to other markets

A downtown Richmond mainstay survived Covid and is now looking to expand to the west and south.

Owner David Bailey envisions Secret Sandwich Society locations in North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia. The goal is 10 locations within the next five years.

“We are looking at Morgantown, West Virginia; Charleston, West Virginia; Roanoke, Knoxville, Chattanooga, Greensboro, North Carolina.” Bailey said. “These are locations that don’t have to be huge but have the right feel. Plus, it has to be the right location. Show me an old gas station. An old fire station.”

Bailey and his wife, Tashia, founded the restaurant nearly a decade ago after moving to Richmond. The business is nothing new for Bailey, who got his start as a teenager and has never left the industry.

Secret Sandwich Society is located at 501 E. Grace St., and a second location will soon open in Fayetteville, West Virginia. It serves specialty sandwich with names like Hoover, Roosevelt and Lady Bird. The…
