The most pressing issues millennials face? Here’s what our 40 Under 40 honorees had to say.

Millennials are a generation that mastered the Oregon Trail on the World Wide Web, watched the Twin Towers fall on 9/11, launched their careers in the midst of the Great Recession and have spent the past few years juggling work with young families during a pandemic.

And when we asked this year’s 40 Under 40 honorees — a group that solidly represents millennial business and nonprofit leaders from across the region — what the most pressing issue of their generation was, gun violence, an issue magnified this past weekend by a shooting on the campus of the University of Virginia, was one of the chief concerns. Mental health, the influence of social media and climate change were among other top concerns for the honorees, who were announced earlier this year and selected from a competitive pool of over 400 applicants.
