Jones Day names longtime D.C. partner Gregory Shumaker next managing partner

Jones Day, one of Greater Washington’s largest law firms, has named longtime partner and D.C. veteran Gregory Shumaker its next managing partner, replacing yet another D.C. executive at the top.

Shumaker, who currently heads the firm’s 200-member global disputes practice, will take over for Stephen Brogan, effective Jan. 1. Brogan, also based in the District, has helmed the law firm for about a decade. 

At least 215 of Jones Day’s more than 2,400 attorneys worldwide are in the D.C. area. It ranks as the region’s 18th-largest law firm when ranked by number of attorneys, counting 337 total staffers as of April, according to Washington Business Journal research.

Shumaker, who’s spent his entire 35-plus-year career with Jones Day, will become the 130-year-old firm’s eighth managing partner. A graduate of Brown University and the University of Notre Dame Law School, the firm said Shumaker has been involved in several high-profile cases, including Detroit’s bankruptcy litigation.
