This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Washington Business Journal’s CEO of the Year awards, a program that’s evolved into a chance to reflect upon the challenges and opportunities that have shaped the local business community.
The last few years have been headlined by names that led the region through the depths of the pandemic. The humanitarian efforts of chef and CEO José Andrés in 2020 and health leadership of Children’s National Hospital CEO Dr. Kurt Newman in 2021 earned the top honors while the region battled the effects of Covid-19.
But as we slowly emerge from the grips of the pandemic, this year’s program sought to honor a leader who’s helped usher the region into a new phase of recovery.
