Full Silver Line service expected to launch Nov. 15, Metro says

The 11.4-mile extension of Metro’s Silver Line will open to passengers on Nov. 15, the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority announced Monday.   

Metro announced the news in a tweeted video, showing a slew of transit and employees saying, “I’m ready” and “We’re ready,” in several languages, including American Sign Language.

The $3 billion project has faced years of delays. But on Nov. 15, Metro riders will finally have access to six new stations stretching between Fairfax and Loudoun counties: Reston Town Center, Herndon, Innovation Center, Dulles International Airport, Loudoun Gateway and Ashburn.

Last week, Metro officials indicated that they could launch the Silver Line extension in time for Thanksgiving after its safety watchdog, the Washington Metrorail Safety Commission, greenlit the return of more 7000-series trains alongside frequent inspection and safety data.
