University of Maryland basketball coach buys Potomac mansion

The University of Maryland’s new head basketball coach is putting down roots in Potomac.

Kevin Willard, who in March signed a seven-year deal to coach the Terrapins, and his wife, Julie, have purchased an 11,200-square-foot mansion in the Montgomery County community for $4.9 million, according to public records.

The home, which was built in 2014, sits on 2 acres and features seven bedrooms, 6.5 bathrooms, a four-car garage, an outdoor kitchen, a mudroom with built-in lockers and a movie room with surround sound. It also boasts a gym with a full bath and sauna “that could easily be converted to a bedroom or a nanny suite,” according to the listing from Washington Fine Properties.

Willard, 47, was hired away from Seton Hall University, where he coached for 12 seasons and was named Big East Coach of the Year in 2016. He compiled a record of 225-161 at Seton Hall and brought his team to the NCAA Tournament five times in the last six seasons.
