A team of four women founders are working toward relaunching a platform for recreation activities after placing second in a pitch competition sponsored by Short Pump software firm Covintus.
Katie Cleasby, who lives in Ashburn, Virginia, founded Recspert last year. She has almost two decades of experience in physical education and fitness. A year ago, she quit her job and started down the path of building a company.
“I left my position on Friday, ran an Ironman and had an idea for a business by Monday,” Cleasby said.
Working in fitness, she has seen a lot of technology built up around exercise and wellness but not recreation. Recspert is an online marketplace that connects customers with recreation professionals offering activities like biking, kayaking, fencing and yoga. It hopes to find an audience in busy families searching for something fun to do in their area.
