Beers & Cutler co-founder John Cutler dies

John Cutler, a Greater Washington accounting industry giant who helped found Beers & Cutler PLLC, died Monday of a stroke. He was 77.

Cutler had been serving for the past 11 years as senior adviser of another local financial institution, Chevy Chase Trust, taking up the post shortly after Beers & Cutler was sold to Baker Tilly in December 2009.

Cutler had retired as the firm’s partner at the end of that year and served as a senior adviser for the next year before joining Chevy Chase Trust, a wealth management firm where he had been a personal client himself, in 2011. He came on board as “one of the most respected professionals in the community,” then-CEO Peter Welber said then.

“I had a great career in public accounting that extended over 41 years,” Cutler told the Washington Business Journal at the time. “I’m excited about starting something new.”
