Viewpoint: Our strongest leadership stems from our own personalities

One of the perks of this publisher job is the opportunity to meet CEOs and other distinguished leaders in our community. What I am about to say may seem pretty self-evident, but after all these years doing this job, some basic qualities still surprise me.

Leadership comes in so many tastes and forms. The zillions of business leaders I have met may have business success in common but what I’ve learned and witnessed, though obvious, bears repeating: We come in many different shapes, sizes and personalities. We craft our own path to success and leadership based on who we are, what we find deep within ourselves at critical moments and how we deploy our talents and skills. Sure, there are courses in business school, countless books and seminars, and a dozen classes on leadership, but there’s a simple fact that no Wharton education can instill into you unless you are willing to really and truly know and accept who you are as a person and lean into that.
