Viewpoint: Efforts to stretch rail’s regional reach must not come to a stop

Imagine a day when a resident from Baltimore or Richmond can reliably access National Landing — by hopping on a train. Or imagine what would happen if an employer could choose to set up shop in Germantown or Odenton or Fredericksburg, knowing that the talent across the region could reach their offices via rail. Or imagine all of Amtrak’s regional trains continuing to Richmond from Washington’s Union Station, effectively extending the Northeast corridor to Richmond.

Not only is this possible, but with the passage of the federal bipartisan Infrastructure Investment & Jobs Act (“IIJA”), this vision is in our reach.

The capital region from Baltimore to Richmond has unparalleled opportunities, diverse talent, a committed and coordinated private sector, and a strong economic foundation for growth.
