Warren Buffett still has faith in America, telling CNBC Thursday night that it has the ” secret sauce” and that the country will “work fine under [President] Donald Trump.”
“It doesn’t work all the time perfectly, but you just look at where we go, milestone after milestone,” he said. “Never bet against America.”
The chairman of Berkshire Hathaway (ticker: BRK.A, BRK.B) was speaking to CNBC at a red carpet event for “Becoming Warren Buffett,” a new HBO documentary that debuts Jan. 30.
Buffett supported Hillary Clinton in the presidential election, but told Fortune in November that Trump won’t ruin the economy. He also said at the time that he was still buying the stocks he was prior to the election and that the U.S. would be richer after Trump’s presidency.
“There will be hiccups from time to time in the economy,” he told CNBC Thursday, “[But] we’ll do well over time.”
The billionaire investor gave a clue in November about what he would talk about in his 2017 annual report, specifically when asked if an index fund would be “the next Warren Buffett.”
“I don’t know about ETF, but passive will beat active over time,” he said at the time. “But not for the manager. The manager’s going to make money out of active and the investor’s going to do better with passive.”
