Quest Diagnostics Inc (DGX) Data Breach Affects 34,000

Quest Diagnostics Inc (ticker: DGX) is the latest company grappling with a data breach.

The lab diagnostics company announced the breach Tuesday, and has already informed the 34,000 people whose accounts were compromised. A hacker infiltrated the MyQuest by Care360 internet application and accessed names, birthdates, lab results and telephone numbers. Social Security numbers and credit cards were not part of the hack.

It doesn’t appear people’s information was misused, and the investigation is still ongoing, according to a company news release. A cybersecurity firm is helping Quest with its investigation as well as taking a look at its systems.

As The New York Times points out, the U.S. company didn’t reveal specifics about where the people affected live. Quest says its patrons include one in three American adults each year, plus 50 percent of U.S. physicians and hospitals.

The company told the affected people about the incident via mail, and they can call (888) 320-9970 to talk about what happened, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. EST.
