That free Apple Music trial period is no longer free for some

WASHINGTON — It’s been three months since Apple announced the opportunity to get free music for a trial period by signing up for Apple Music.

Everyone who jumped on that bandwagon immediately and forgot, or chose not, to turn off the auto-renewal function has been charged $9.99.

“Estimates are that about half of the people who signed up for Apple’s free music have not said, ‘Hey, I want to cancel my free account,’” says Ken Colburn, of the Data Doctors. “About 7 1/2 million people are potentially going to get a $10 surprise.”

The three-month countdown for the free trial period begins when people sign up for the service. That means some procrastinators still have time to prevent getting charged if they want to decline the service.

People unsubscribe using the Apple Music app. PC & Tech Authority lists step-by-step instructions, which begin in the Manage option listed under Subscriptions.
