This Sunday is Father’s Day — typically not a holiday that inspires most people to think about college. After all, this year’s celebration coincides with the first day of summer, and most of you are probably spending the weekend outdoors with family with school far from your mind.
However, there’s no real offseason when it comes to paying for your education. And so, in honor of Father’s Day, we’re taking a look at scholarship opportunities just for men.
While we’ve already covered a few male-specific awards and even provided some tips for single dads, these scholarships provide even more options for fathers and sons working to pay for college. So take a few minutes in between your barbecue and your fishing trip to check out these programs.
National men’s organizations are among the best sources you’ll find for male-oriented scholarships. If you’re a member of a social or professional fraternity, you’ll find yourself eligible for plenty of awards .
Make sure you talk to your chapter leaders when you’re back on campus in the fall, so you don’t miss out on any deadlines.

If you’ve devoted free time to scouting, your work can also pay off. The National Eagle Scouts Association sponsors several merit-based and need-based scholarships; one of the most lucrative is the $25,000 United Health Scholarship, awarded to an Eagle Scout pursuing a career as a public health professional. The application deadline is typically Dec. 31 each year.
Young men studying medicine are just one of the groups that may benefit from the Spence Reese Scholarship. This generous award is renewable for up to four years and scholarships averaging $4,000 per year are awarded to male high school seniors who plan to pursue degrees in medicine, engineering, law and political science.
The Spence Reese Scholarship is funded by the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego, but you don’t have to be a club member or a San Diego resident to apply. You may, however, have to attend a personal interview in San Diego. Applications open early in the year and are due March 31 so check out the scholarship website for details on what you’ll have to provide.

Like many unrestricted programs, the majority of scholarships for men are based on your current or future field of study or your career plans. Make sure and check with your counselor or academic adviser when it comes to awards based on your major or your activities.
You may find an array of possible awards like the ones rounded up by the American Assembly for Men In Nursing. This professional association funds eight to 10 awards each year for men pursuing nursing licensure; they also link to some other solid scholarship sources in the field.
If your career aspirations include teaching, check with your current or future college to find out if they participate in the Call Me MISTER initiative. Started at Clemson University, the program uses scholarships, tuition assistance and loan forgiveness to encourage students, especially black males, to become teachers.
Participants also receive academic and job placement support, and join a cohort of students with similar interests. The Clemson program has expanded to 18 other South Carolina schools and to seven national partners.

Finally, your extracurricular activities can also turn into scholarship dollars. Whether you’re an athlete, a volunteer or even a singer.
In that last case, check out the annual scholarships for music majors from the Associated Male Choruses of America. Ranging from $1,000 to $1,200, these awards are offered to college undergrad singers or musicians who are sponsored by a member chorus.
While you’ve got until March 1 to apply, it’s important to get an early start; spend some time this summer researching, practicing and performing with an eligible chorus, so you can be sure you qualify once school starts again!
