Washington home sales plunge 20% in November

It was a slower month for real estate agents in the Washington area in November but prices held up, according to real estate brokerage firm Redfin.

Sales in the Washington metro plunged 20 percent from the previous month and were down 3.9 percent from November 2013. That mirrors a 20.9 percent drop in month-over-month sales nationally. Redfin says November sales nationwide were down 4.9 percent from a year ago.

Fewer potential sellers in the Washington market decided to list their house or condo last month, too, with newly listed homes down 33.8 percent from October. New listings in the Washington metro last month were down 2.8 percent from a year ago, compared with a nationwide decline of 0.5 percent.

Redfin says the median price for a house or condo that sold in Washington last month was $360,000, up 0.6 percent from October and 2.6 percent higher than November 2013.

San Francisco saw the biggest jump in prices, up 19.9 percent from a year ago.
