Employers are watching your online shopping activity

WASHINGTON — If you’re planning to shop on Cyber Monday, you’ll have plenty of
company.

The National Retail Federation projects that 126 million people will buy something
online on the Monday after Thanksgiving. And — let’s face it — a lot of them will
be doing that shopping at work.

Ryan Hunt, a spokesman for CareerBuilder.com, says you should be careful about that –
– some 24 percent of employers report that they’ve laid off at least one worker for
non-work related Internet use. So you may want to shop on your phone instead, which
Hunt says about one in four workers do.

Meanwhile, if you’re hunting for deals, CyberMonday.com will highlight a different
discount every hour.
