WASHINGTON — Two years ago, Sean Fine and Andrea Nix Fine proved that a married couple from Chevy Chase could win an Oscar with their documentary short “Inocente.” Now, Michael and Gina Pack, also of Chevy Chase, have collaborated on a documentary for PBS called “Rickover: The Birth of Nuclear Power.” It chronicles the career of Admiral Hyman G. Rickover, whom President Jimmy Carter called “the greatest engineer who ever lived” and whom many historians credit with helping the United States win the Cold War. Rickover only gave two extensive interviews in his life, one with Edward R. Murrow on CBS, and the other with Diane Sawyer on “60 Minutes.” The latter was produced by the Fine’s parents, Paul and Holly Fine, who helped the Packs gain access to the footage. WTOP spoke with Michael Pack to preview the documentary, which airs Wednesday night at 8 p.m. on PBS. Hear the full interview by clicking the audio button above.
