Veterans Day Freebies across the region

WASHINGTON — Veterans Day, the day America honors its veterans for their service and sacrifice, is Tuesday, Nov. 11. On and around the day, there will be traditional observances, a parade and a big concert this year on the National Mall.

Veterans can take advantage of everything from free car washes to free haircuts, free meals and free admission to Mount Vernon and Colonial Williamsburg. Many of these offers are also being extended to active members of the military.

Friday, Nov. 7

  • National Cathedral is hosting a free concert tribute to veterans at 7 p.m. No tickets are required. For more information, click here.
  • Colonial Williamsburg is extending free admission to active duty military, reservists, retirees, veterans and their dependents November 7-11. For more information, click here.

Saturday, Nov. 8

  • The Greater Manassas Veterans Day Parade starts at 11 a.m. at the intersection of Prescott Ave. and Quarry Rd. For more information, click here.
  • The Prince George’s County Department of Parks and Recreation is offering free golf, tennis, ice skating and more to active and retired military and their guests at various facilities. For more information, click here.

Sunday, Nov. 9

  • McCormick & Schmick’s is offering veterans a free entree from a special menu. Reservations are strongly suggested. For more information, click here.
  • National Cathedral is hosting a Remembrance Service at 10:30 a.m. It is being held in collaboration with the British, Canadian, French, German, Australian and New Zealand embassies and will mark the centennial anniversary since the beginning of World War I. Monday, Nov. 10

  • Select Red Hot & Blue locations are offering buy-one, get-one-free entrees for veterans and active military with the purchase of two drinks. Offer good Nov. 10-12 with this coupon.

Tuesday, Nov. 11

  • The incredible lineup for the Concert for Valor, held at 7 p.m. on the National Mall, includes The Black Keys, Eminem, Dave Grohl, Metallica, Rihanna, Bruce Springsteen and Carrie Underwood.   • This year’s Veterans Day National Ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery starts at 11 a.m., but you are strongly encouraged to arrive early. For more information, click here.
  • The Veterans Day Commemoration at the World War II Memorial starts at 9 a.m. For more information, click here.
  • The Veterans Day Observance at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial will be held at 1 p.m. For more information, click here.
  • At Mount Vernon, admission is free for all active duty, former, or retired military personnel. There will also be special Veterans Day programming. For more information, click here.
  • Admission to the James E. Richmond Science Center at St. Charles High School in Waldorf is free for active duty and retired military. The film “Dream To Fly” will be showing in the 184-seat Digital Dome Classroom at 6 and 7:15 p.m. For more information, click here.
  • Veterans and their immediate family members can enjoy free admission to Fairfax County RECenters. For more information, click here.
  • All 24 Hour Fitness locations are offering free all-club access Nov. 8-11 to all servicemen and servicewomen and their friends. For more information, click here.
  • Veterans Day is a fee-free day at the 133 National Parks that normally charge a fee to enter. For more information, click here.
  • Members of the military can get a free haircut at Great Clips on Veterans Day. Everyone who gets a haircut that day will get a card good for a free haircut that they can give to a veteran. The cards are valid Nov. 11-Dec. 31. For more information, click here.
