More charges against San Francisco police officers

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Federal authorities added more theft and corruption counts to an indictment charging two San Francisco Police officers with stealing money and drugs from suspects.

A federal grand jury in San Francisco unsealed the new indictment last week.

It alleges Sgt. Ian Furminger and officer Edmond Robles stole money during searches in 2009. The new charges also accuse the two of accepting gifts from a suspect in exchange for shielding him from prosecution.

The original indictment charged the two with stealing a $500 gift card in a separate search in 2009.

Furminger and Robles pleaded not guilty Friday, and their trial is scheduled to begin Monday.

Former officer Reynaldo Vargas pleaded guilty last month to four felony charges and is cooperating with the investigation.
