LAS VEGAS (AP) — Points leader Matt Hagan topped qualifying Saturday in the NHRA Toyota Nationals with the sixth quickest-time in Funny Car history.
Hagan powered his Dodge Charger set a career best and track record with a 3.983-second pass at 322.42 mph, taking the No. 1 spot from rival John Force. The 65-year-old Force is second in the standings.
“I’m glad we were able to do the three-second run for the fans out there,” Hagan said. “They wanted to see a 3-second run. Heck, when we were coming back, there were a lot John Force fans cheering for it.”
J.R. Todd led in Top Fuel, Erica Enders-Stevens in Pro Stock, and Andrew Hines in Pro Stock Motorcycle in the fifth of six events in the Countdown to the Championship.
Todd had a 3.732 at 327.43 in his Kalitta Motorsports dragster. Enders-Stevens ran a track-record 6.576 at 209.75 in her Chevy Camaro, and Hines had a track-record 6.946 at 192.55 on a Suzuki.
