WASHINGTON (AP) — The Tony Award-winning musical “Evita” has opened at the Kennedy Center in Washington, featuring the story of Argentina’s once famous and powerful first lady.
The touring Broadway production stars Caroline Bowman as Eva Peron, singing such memorable tunes as “Don’t Cry for Me Argentina.” The role was made popular by Madonna in the 1996 film “Evita.”
This show is the first new Broadway production of the award-winning musical from Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice since it debuted on Broadway more than 30 years ago. This production is directed by Michael Grandage and choreographed by Rob Ashford.
“Evita” runs through Oct. 19 in Washington.
