COVINGTON, Va. (AP) — Expected heavy rainfall has prompted the U.S. Army of Corps of Engineers to cancel a pulse release from Gathright Dam.
This year’s sixth and final release had been scheduled for Wednesday.
Pulse releases simulate the conditions of small flood events. The corps says in a news release that the rain will be monitored to determine whether the release will be rescheduled.
Corps hydraulic engineer Owen Reece says the rain might perform the same function.
The releases from the dam near Covington support a project aimed at improving the Jackson River’s water quality and habitat.
