WASHINGTON — A bond hearing is set for Friday for a Rockville, Maryland, man charged with the first-degree murder of his 82-year-old mother.
Hani Haleem is now being held without bond.
Montgomery County police arrested Hani Haleem, 57, after a fire burned down Somaya Haleem’s Iris Street house. Hani Haleen lived with her mother at her home.
Detectives interviewed him. Police say he admitted stabbing his mother multiple times. Investigators believe he then started the fire.
When firefighters got to the scene of the fire early Thursday, they found Hani Haleem outside the house.
Fire Chief Steve Lohr said the fire had been burning for a while before it was called in by a neighbor.
Firefighters had to carry Somaya Haleem out a window and down a ladder because the interior stairs to the home had burned through, Lohr said.
