ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) — Anne Arundel Public School officials are requesting a 45-day extension of an immunization deadline for its students.
WBAL-TV reports (http://bit.ly/1uN0APx ) the school district has asked for extra time for its students to be vaccinated. Under Maryland law, students must provide documentation that they have been vaccinated by the 20th day of school. Anne Arundel schools began Aug. 25.
As of Friday, 1,000 students did not have documentation on file with the school district. Without the extension, those students would be barred from returning to school on Monday.
Students are required to be vaccinated for measles, mumps and other communicable diseases. Students who were immunized in previous years do not have to provide additional paperwork.
The extension option was offered to counties statewide, with a Sept. 19 deadline for requests.
