LEXINGTON PARK, Md. (AP) — Navy investigators have charged a father with involuntary manslaughter in the death of his 17-month-old son left in a hot vehicle at a Maryland naval base.
A criminal complaint says John Junek told a Naval Criminal Investigative Service agent he was supposed to take the child to daycare at the Patuxent Naval Air Station on Wednesday but didn’t.
The document says the child was in the vehicle for about seven hours as temperatures reached 85 degrees.
The complaint says he used his vehicle to go to an early-afternoon meeting, but didn’t notice the boy inside.
The investigator says Junek told him he realized he might not have dropped the boy off after his wife called to ask about a car seat. The complaint says Junek discovered the unconscious boy and called 911.
