DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Beaux Barfield is leaving his role as race director of IndyCar for the same position with the Tudor United Sports Car Championship Series.
Barfield replaced Brian Barnhart at the start of the 2012 season but his three years were pocked with inconsistent calls that drew criticism from drivers. IndyCar this year went to a race steward system in which Barfield had a committee in race control with him during each race.
His hiring by IMSA was announced Friday and was one of several changes to the sports car series’ leadership group. Simon Hodgson was named managing director and Scot Elkins was named managing director of technical regulations.
Paul Walter was named director of racing operations and Mark Raffauf was named director of series platforms.
