Norfolk police cruiser involved in wreck; 5 hurt

NORFOLK, Va. (AP) — Five people have been injured in a car accident in Norfolk, including two police officers.

The Virginian-Pilot (http://bit.ly/1qeQwPv) reports a Norfolk police cruiser with its lights and sirens activated collided with a car shortly after 2 p.m. Saturday. Police spokeswoman Melinda Wray says the impact pushed the cruiser into two other vehicles.

Wray says both officers in the cruiser and two men and a boy in the car had non-life threatening injuries. The officers were taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital and those in the car were taken to Sentara Leigh Memorial Hospital.

The accident is under investigation, although Wray says charges are pending against the car’s driver for failing to yield to an emergency vehicle.
