Free vaccinations for Montgomery County students Tuesday

WASHINGTON — Starting Tuesday, there will be free vaccination clinics in Montgomery County to help students meet a new state requirement for immunizations.

“All Maryland students who are entering 7th grade need to have an additional … Tdap vaccination,” says Mary Anderson, a spokeswoman with the Montgomery County Health and Human Services. “Tdap is Tetanus, Diptheria and Pertussis, all combined in one vaccination.”

Vaccination clinics will open Tuesday morning in Germantown, Rockville and Silver Spring. All 7th graders must have the shots.

“If you’re an incoming 7th grader, you have to show proof of that by Sept. 12 or you will be kept out of school,” Anderson says.

The Tdap booster offers continued protection from those diseases for adolescents and adults.

Rising 6th graders in D.C. and Virginia must have the Tdap booster shot.

The free immunization clinics in Montgomery County will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays until Sept. 12.
