WASHINGTON — Highways, housing developments: Who decides what goes where in your neighborhood?
In Montgomery County, the chair of the Planning Board has a lot to say about whether you see a new shopping center, school or housing development in your area, and the spot is up for grabs. Five candidates for the job are interviewing with the Montgomery County Council.
Council President Craig Rice says he’s been asked by one constituent whether the council will try to get someone to take the job on a long-term basis — “making sure that this person was going to stay as Planning Board chair, and not eventually go off and run for office, and then create another hole in the Planning Board.”
Two Planning Board members, Casey Anderson and Norman Dreyfuss, are applying for the top job. The council makes the appointment after a series of interviews.
