BUDAPEST, Hungary (AP) — Formula One driver Sergio Perez is confident preparations will be completed in time so his Mexico homeland will be able to host a grand prix in 2015, its first since 1992.
Perez said on Thursday he was “proud and excited,” and the Force India driver expected the race to be held near the end of next year to have more time to rebuild the circuit. He said the contest would be “great for my country and all the fans back home.”
F1 CEO Bernie Ecclestone confirmed on Wednesday that a deal had been reached to hold a race in Mexico City in 2015, though a posting on the F1 website said “Mexico’s return to the F1 calendar remains subject to final negotiations.”
