Langdon sets track record in Top Fuel qualifying

NORWALK, Ohio (AP) — Defending season champion Shawn Langdon had a track-record run Saturday night in the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals to lead Top Fuel qualifying for the third time this season.

Langdon powered his 10,000-horsepower dragster to a 3.745-seconds pass at 325.22 mph for his first No. 1 qualifying position at Norwalk and the 16th of his career.

“Tonight, we felt like we could lay down and try to make the best run possible,” Langdon said. “I have a lot of confidence. The last couple races we’ve struggled in qualifying. We feel like we have that little bit of a handle back on the race car again.”

Del Worsham topped the Funny Car field, points leader Erica Enders-Stevens was the fastest in Pro Stock, and Eddie Krawiec led the Pro Stock Motorcycle lineup.

Worsham claimed the No. 1 spot with his Friday run at a track-record time of 4.000 at 321.88 in a Toyota Camry. Enders-Stevens had a track-record pass of 6.523 at 212.63 in her Chevy Camaro, and Krawiec earned his fifth consecutive No. 1 of the season with a 6.844 at 195.05 on a Harley-Davidson.
