WASHINGTON (AP) — The Democratic mayoral nominee in the nation’s capital is turning 42, and a who’s who of local politics is helping her celebrate.
Two former mayors and several other D.C. councilmembers will serve as honorary hosts at Thursday’s birthday party for D.C. Councilmember Muriel Bowser.
Bowser defeated incumbent mayor Vincent Gray in the April Democratic primary. She’ll face two independents in the general election: Councilmember David Catania and former councilmember Carol Schwartz. A non-Democrat has never been elected mayor in the District of Columbia.
Former mayors Anthony Williams and Marion Barry are among the hosts for Bowser’s party, which will be held at the home of supporters Daniel and Loretta Neumann Smith. Bowser’s actual birthday is Saturday.
