WASHINGTON — Area residents and visitors will get twice the opportunity to see fireworks tonight — on either side of the river.
Alexandria, Va., is celebrating its 265th birthday Saturday at Oronoco Bay Park, 100 Madison Street, on the waterfront in Old Town. After speeches by local officials, they will cut the cake at 8 p.m. and set off the fireworks spectacle at 9:30 p.m. The show will feature the “1812 Overture” with Cannon Support by the United States Marine Corps band.

Meanwhile, the Gaylord National Resort at the National Harbor in Maryland (right across the river from Oronoco Bay Park) will be setting off its own fireworks show at 9:30 p.m. It’s a five-minute show, but if you miss it, they repeat every Saturday at the same time through August.
And if you are nowhere near the river, they’ll be fireworks at Maple Lawn in Fulton, Md., tonight as well, starting at 9 p.m. Check here for more information.
