BAD GASTEIN, Austria (AP) — Sara Errani reached her eighth quarterfinal of the season and first since the French Open by defeating Paula Ormaechea of Argentina 6-3, 6-0 in the second round of the Gastein Ladies on Thursday.
The second-seeded Italian, who won the doubles at Wimbledon last week, was broken twice in the opening set but conceded only four points on serve in the second.
Errani next plays Chanelle Scheepers of South Africa, who rallied to beat defending champion Yvonne Meusburger 4-6, 6-1, 6-2.
Scheepers lost the opening set from 4-2 up before taking control against the sixth-seeded Austrian. Rain interrupted play for an hour at 2-2 in the final set before Scheepers reeled off four straight games to close out the victory.
Earlier, Shelby Rogers of the United States routed the 16th-ranked Carla Suarez Navarro 6-4, 6-0 to reach her first career WTA quarterfinal.
Rogers, ranked 147th, had not beaten a top-50 player before. She hit 11 aces and dropped serve only once while holding off 10 break points for the Spaniard, who was seeded third.
Rogers, who won three matches to qualify for the main draw, next plays No. 7 Camila Giorgi of Italy, who defeated Austrian wild card Lisa-Maria Moser 6-0, 6-2.
