WASHINGTON — It’s the kind of scene that makes every driver shudder: One car overturned at a crash site, emergency workers trying to help the injured, police trying to sort out what happened.
That was the scene at the corner of Columbia Pike and Fairland Road on Wednesday afternoon. The driver of a red Jeep Commander was heading northbound, and according to what Montgomery County Police have learned so far, that driver tried to make a lane change. But that touched off a multiple car crash, with the Jeep striking an Audi which slammed into a Lincoln Navigator. It was that impact that flipped the Audi which then hit a Toyota Scion tC that was stopped that at the intersection of Fairland Road and Columbia Pike.
The driver of the Audi, 22-year-old Marcelina Maria Cordoba of Silver Spring, died as a result of her injuries. Police have identified the drivers of the other cars, including the Jeep. Police say that driver, 37-year-old Phyllis Nicole Ford, initially left the scene of the crash, but returned hours later. No charges have been filed against Ford. Police are continuing their investigation and say if you saw something, they want to hear from you.
Police say you can call call the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 240.773.6620 or call the police non-emergency number at 301-279-8000. Callers may remain anonymous
