RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Dozens of puppies and dogs seized from a puppy mill in Page County are being transferred to other facilities.
The nonprofit Animal Rescue Corps says the animals are being placed in shelters and foster-based rescue facilities in Virginia, Maryland, Tennessee and Canada. Those facilities will rehabilitate the animals and find them permanent homes.
Earlier this month the Page County Sheriff’s Office seized 132 small-breed dogs that included newborn litters from a breeding facility at a home. The majority of the dogs were underweight and had untreated eye and ear infections, skin issues, severe matting and respiratory conditions. Most of the dogs were treated at an animal hospital in Merrifield.
Three parrots and a cockatiel also were rescued. The birds were in dirty cages and didn’t have access to adequate water.
