WASHINGTON — Not everyone is happy about the headdress Pharrell is wearing on the cover of Elle UK’s July issue.
The cover shows Pharrell in an American feather headdress.
The Doug Inglish photographed shoot is drawing controversy and the Native American community is sounding off about his fashion choice.
Many people took to Twitter to express their anger.
I'm seriously disappointed in @Pharrell for wearing a war bonnet on the cover of @ELLEmagazine

Urgh. Why does the fashion industry insist on turning sacred cultural items into fashion props? #NOTHappy @ELLEUK pic.twitter.com/pcjFER2bVe

#NOThappy Headdresses are for native Americans and are not meant to be worn for giggles, earned not fashion throw aways.

Pharrell issued an apology to BuzzFeed on Wednesday saying didn’t mean to disrespect anyone.
“I respect and honor every kind of race, background and culture,” Pharrell said. “I am genuinely sorry.”
