WASHINGTON (AP) — A man accused of beating and robbing an elderly vendor near George Washington University in 2005 has been convicted for a second time in the case.
The Washington Post (http://wapo.st/1qhvYnR ) reported late Wednesday that 54-year-old James Dorsey was found guilty of attacking Vasiliki Fotopoulos, who sold umbrellas, caps and other items near the Foggy Bottom Metro station.
Dorsey was found guilty in 2006 and sentenced to 14 years in prison, but the D.C. Court of Appeals overturned the conviction in 2013 and ordered a new trial. The appellate court said police violated Dorsey’s rights by handcuffing him to a chair and questioning him after he asked for an attorney and said he didn’t want to talk.
Sentencing was set for August.
