Lightning ruled out as cause of Martinsville fire

MARTINSVILLE, Va. (AP) — Investigators have ruled out lightning as a possible cause of a fire that caused more than half a million dollars damage to a former furniture plant in Martinsville.

Martinsville fire marshal Ted Anderson says all other possible causes are still on the table.

Anderson tells The Martinsville Bulletin (http://bit.ly/1mz3Fwk ) that the March 3 fire at the former American of Martinsville plant caused an estimated $516,800 worth of damage.

Anderson says metal and bricks recovered from the site will be recycled.

The property’s owner, Robin Hiatt of Stuart, declined to comment.
